09:30 AM - Old town of Rethymno
Our first stop will be in the charming and historic old town of Rethymno. We will stroll along its picturesque narrow streets while admiring the impressive old mansions, the Rimondi fountain, the Venetian Gate of the city walls, Saint Francisco Church, the lighthouse, and the Venetian fortress. You will have plenty of opportunities to take stunning photos and learn about the fascinating history of this unique place.
11:45 AM - Margarites Village
Next, we will head to the lovely artisan village of Margarites, which is renowned for its traditional pottery, ceramics, and crafts. You will have the chance to observe local artisans using time-honoured techniques to create stunning pieces of pottery and other crafts. You can also purchase souvenirs to take home with you or even participate in a 1.5-hour lesson to learn some of these skills yourself!
12:30 PM - Lunch
We will stop for a delicious lunch at a traditional Cretan taverna, where you can sample some of the local cuisine and enjoy some downtime with your fellow travelers.
14:15 AM - Arkadi Monastery
Our next stop will be at the historic Arkadi Monastery, which played a vital role in the history of Crete and is a designated UNESCO European Freedom Monument. We will explore the monastery’s various rooms, including the dining room, cellars, powder room, museum, and art gallery, and learn about its fascinating history and impressive architecture. You will have the chance to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and contemplate the significance of this important place.
